I’ve always been into fitness from a young age with sports as my main passion. After years of competitive Swimming and triathlons I started to follow my passion for the fitness industry with personal training. Since 2007 I have seen many changes over the years but one thing that hasn’t changed is people’s ability to adapt to progression with the right leadership.

For the first three years of my coaching I focused on one on ones and small groups before taking two years off to follow my interest in martial arts. This then lead me back to coaching and opening my first CrossFit affiliate. After two years on my own working long hours I decided it was time to build the business and go into partnership with my brother Gavin and we open our first gym together in 2013.

This is when I started to compete as an athlete in CrossFit and have qualified for the Asia pacific regionals three times as an individual and once in a team.

Like my brother sport has always been a major part of my life. From humble beginnings at our local swimming pool and little athletics club I’ve always had a burning desire to compete and to try every sport I possibly could. Through high school my desire to win only intensified as the level of competition increased competing at both State and National level across Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country, Football and Baseball. Weight training has always been a constant for me throughout my life regardless of what sport I’ve participated in. It wasn’t until I became heavily involved in Martial Arts that I started to focus more on functional movements rather than just working on my beach muscles. In 2007 I discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and it was love at first sight. I’ve been doing it 5-6 times a week ever since, to date I have multiple Victorian, Australian & Pan Pacific Titles under my belt. The technical aspect of BJJ combined with the core strength required has held me in good stead for the transition into CrossFit.

I’ve coached and trained athletes across a broad range of sports over the past 15 years. I’m very fortunate to have trained all over the world and learnt from some of the best coaches from different sporting backgrounds. From this I have acquired a plethora of knowledge and skills that I have taken, fine tuned and shared with athletes to help them achieve their own fitness goals. I love to learn new skills and am not one to quit. Why else would I choose a martial art that takes on average 10 years of dedication to achieve the status of Black Belt.

My instructor once told me “A Black Belt is a White Belt that never quits.” I believe this to be true with everything in life. Never give up, always keep learning, keep improving, share what you know and be humble.

I can’t remember a time when I haven’t been active or participated in sport. From playing AFL, competing in little athletics or riding around on a skateboard all day with my brother being active has always been a part of my life. I have been fortunate enough to travel to the Northern Territory & Tiwi Islands on a school footy trip and been lucky to travel around Australia competing in Rowing. In 2008 my rowing crew won the Schoolboy National Championships in the 8+ for the first time in thirty years.

My first introduction to CrossFit begun way back in 2012 when I went along with my Dad to a CrossFit Level 1 Seminar, quickly sparking my interest in the fitness methodology as well as the competitive side of the sport; I started out training in my garage and then moved to a box in Canberra called ‘Adapt CrossFit’. It was there a found my passion for CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting, naturally this progressed into me taking up a part time role as a coach in December 2014 while finishing University and I’ve been coaching ever since.

Since moving back to Melbourne in May 2017 I have loved training with the community and coaches at Ward’s Gym, they continue to challenge, encourage and push me everyday. I have also taken up a role as a Strength & Conditioning coach with the Port Melbourne Football Club as they look to defend their 2017 VFL premiership in 2018. I look forward to sharing my passion for CrossFit and Strength & Conditioning with you all at Ward’s Gym.

  • Level 1 Crossfit Coach
  • ASCA Strength and Conditioning Level 1
  • Cert III and IV in Fitness
  • Crossfit Certified Judge
  • Punchfit Boxing Instructor Level 1

Unlike the majority of coaches, I can’t say that sport, fitness, or even health have always been a big part of my life. In fact not that long ago I was a regular visitor to Maccas and drank and smoked whatever I could get my hands on.

Since moving from Auckland to Melbourne in 2013 and completing my Cert III and IV in fitness my life has changed dramatically and I honestly feel it has only just begun. I began working as a personal trainer 2 years ago, unsure of where I fit in an industry with so many niches, until I discovered functional training and my love (obsession) of Crossfit began. As my own training progressed I gained my Level 1 Strength & Conditioning and then Crossfit Level 1 Coach certification in order to develop a greater understanding of the methodology to use with my own clients.

Joining the team at Wards has increased my love for Crossfit tenfold and I consider myself beyond lucky to both train and work with such a strong and supportive community. I’m always impressed and envious when other trainers tell me their lengthy lists of sporting achievements, and have to remind myself that I was once the girl who regularly ordered a cheeseburger combo with an extra cheeseburger (with mayo), and couldn’t even do one pull-up. Everyone has to start somewhere.
